This is my granny's recipe to hold off the flu when the weather changes
FLUE BREW
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. Turmeric powder
1 cup warm milk
mix well and drink before bed.
Warm Apricot Nectar
1 can (46 ounces) Apricot nectar
1/2 lemon, sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
15 whole cloves
8 whole allspice berries
2 bottomes (7 oz. ginger ale
In a saucepan, mix all ingredients except ginger ale;
heat to boiling . Reduce heat; simmer gently 5 minutes. Remove from heat . strain and add ginger ale.
spiced tea
4 cups boiling water
4 tsp. loose leaf tea
6 whole cloves
1/2 tsp. dried orange peel
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
Pour boiling water on all ingredients in heat proof container.
Vover; steep for 3-5 minutes . Stir and strain.
OLD KENTUCKY LEMONADE
1 large bunch of mint (about 10 sprigs)
1 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 quart ginger ale, chilled
wash mint and remove leaves . Mix lemon juice, sugar and water;pour over mint leaves . Let stand 30 minutes . just before serving , stir in ginger ale . serve on ice
WASSAIL
6 cups apple cider or juice
3 stick cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 cup honey
3 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. grated lemon peel
1 can (18 oz) unsweetened pineapple juice or 2 1/4 cups
orange slices with a clove inserted in each slice
In large saucepan , heat cider and one cinnamon stick to boiling; reduce heat. cover; simmer 5 minutes . uncover; stir in remaining ingredients except orange slices and cinnamon sticks and simmer 5 minutes longer. serve in punch bowl; float orange slices and cinnamon sticks.
